An introduction to Stay Well This Winter
People vulnerable to winter illnesses should stay well this winter by taking simple measures to protect themselves.
If you have a long term health condition or are aged over 65, cold weather can be seriously bad for your health. Make sure you get your flu jab, and your home should be at least 18ºC or 65ºF. If you start to feel unwell, even if it is just a cough or a cold, get help from your pharmacist before it gets more serious.

Why it's important to get the flu vaccine this winter
Professor Dame Sally Davies, Chief Medical Officer talks about why it's important to get the flu vaccine this winter.
Flu is infectious, and the best way to protect yourself is with a vaccination. Small children, elderly people and those with at-risk health problems such as cardiovascular disease, heart problems, lung problems and neurological problems are particularly at risk, as are pregnant women. The vaccine is free for at-risk groups on the NHS. You can go to your GP for it or, if you are over 18, to your local pharmacist if they have a private room to give it. Children below school age can go to their GP; those in Years 1 and 2 will get it at school. The vaccine for children is in the form of a nasal spray, so it is not unpleasant!
